Patrick Boaler

Position: Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Office: Room 14B, Joseph Black Building

Email: Patrick.Boaler@ed.ac.uk

Patrick joined the Uhrín group in March 2022 and is working to further improve the group's SHARPER methodology for use in reaction monitoring and complex mixture analysis.

Patrick completed an MChem at the University of York, with a final year project in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry supervised by Prof. Kevin Hodgetts at Harvard Medical School. This was followed by a PhD in physical-organic and supramolecular chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, completed in 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Paul Lusby and Prof. Guy Lloyd-Jones FRS.

Outside of the lab, Patrick enjoys playing the euphonium in various brass and wind ensembles.

Position: 4th year postgraduate

Office: Room 14B, Joseph Black Building

Email: Richard.York@ed.ac.uk

Richard is funded by the E3 DTP, an Edinburgh based doctoral training partnership who fund environmental research.  Richard will be researching new methods of isotopically labelling complex mixtures, specifically peat soils for the improved analysis via high resolution NMR and Mass Spectrometry.

Richard obtained a Masters degree from the University of Edinburgh, undertaking his final year project with Dr Nicholle Bell, working on the solid state analysis of peat soils attempting to distinguish between a restored and damaged site.

When he isn't working, Richard's main interest is in music and is a member of the Edinburgh University Brass Band.
